Peggy's April President Note
Welcome April, the first full month of spring. Although, looking out the window at the freshly fallen snow, it may seem more like January or February!
According to Dictionary.com, there are a few theories behind April’s name. One being that the name is derived from the Latin Aperilis meaning “to open or bud”. April’s birthstone is the diamond and birth flower is the daisy or sweet pea. Earth Day is celebrated on April 22 and National Arbor Day on April 27. April is not only National Humor Month, but also National Poetry Month.
Poetry is a rich form of expression that spans thousands of years; for example, William Shakespeare penned sonnets in the 1500s. Some of my favorites include “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost, “Phenomenal Woman” by Maya Angelou, and the book “The Prophet” which contains 26 poetic essays by Khalil Gibran.
